We check if we can do a good job. If we can, we give you a quote and list the files you will get. If we cannot, we tell you.
We scan the object
We can come to you anywhere in Yorkshire. Scanning does not touch the surface.
We process the data
We clean and align the scan and prepare the files you asked for.
You get your files
We send the files and check they work for you. Ask us if anything is unclear.
What to tell us
- What the item is and roughly how big
- What it is made of, if you know
- What you want to do with the scan
- Any deadline you are working to
- Where the item is in Yorkshire, so we can plan an on-site visit
We may ask for a few photos when we call you back.
What affects the result
- Surface: shiny, black or see-through surfaces are harder to scan. A temporary spray may help, only with your permission.
- Size: very small and very large items need different methods.
- Detail: fine features need more time and care.
- Movement: items and people need to stay still.
File types explained
STL
A simple 3D shape made of triangles. Used by most 3D printers and many design tools.
OBJ and PLY
Mesh files that can also carry colour. Good for art, heritage and visual work.
STEP (CAD-ready)
A solid model an engineer can edit in CAD software. Built from the scan as an extra step.
GLB
A compact 3D file for websites, online shops and viewers.
3MF
A modern 3D printing file that keeps extra settings with the model.
Inspection report
A document showing how a made part compares with its CAD model, usually with a colour map.
